all diagrams are in the attached word document

Number Properties

Property
Addition
Multiplication
Communicative
a+b = b+a
axb = bxa
Association
(a+b)+c = a+(b+c)
(ab)(c) = (a)(bc)
Distributive
a(b+c) = ab + ac
a(b+c) = ab+ac

Scalar – has magnitude only (height, mass, speed, age)
Vector – has magnitude and direction (displacement, velocity, force)

Representing Vectors
1. Words- 5km at an angle of 20° to the horizontal
2. Diagrams – on attached doc
Example- on attached doc

Magnitude of Vector written using absolute value brackets

Direction
1. true bearing
2. compass bearing

Types of Vectors

1. Parallel vectors
- Same or opposite direction

2. Equivalent Vectors
- Same magnitude and direction
- They can have different locations

3. Opposite Vectors
- Same magnitude but opposite direction

Adding and Subtraction Vectors

Diagrams are on the word document that is attached

For teamwork Tuesday we worked on Add and subtract Vectors handout

Resultant – the result of adding / subtraction vectors together

Read TIP TO TAIL

The resultant vector start at the first tail and ends at the last tip

If you do not understand adding and subtracting vectors please watch these two videos:

Applications for Vector Addition
Monday, May 9, 2011.
By: Arlanna Pugh

Overview:Today in class we did a Mid-Unit Vector Review, where we let vector AX = a and vector AY = b in the rectangle ABCD. It was good practice for representing vector segments with variables and expressing their resultant vectors in addition statements of these variables.

In-Class Worksheet: Mid Unit Vector ReviewAnswers were taken up in class.
